Welcome Back!

Hi Everyone,

WELCOME BACK!

I hope you and your family had a fun and relaxing vacation!  I am so excited to be your child's guidance counselor this year!  As a school counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, personal, and social development of all my students (and basically help them be the superheroes they were meant to be!).  I look forward to offering support to the students, staff, families and community.  I will be going into classrooms once  a week (see the specialist schedule for you child) and we will be taking part in meaningful, engaging, and fun lessons revolving around them :-) Our guidance lessons will focus on many different areas including success in school, coping with feelings, and making and keeping friends.  I am also here to provide assistance to your child to help him/her succeed in academics, social settings, and to help guide them in his/her path to the future.

It is my hope that this school year will be filled with successful experiences for all students!

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about your child.

Since I cover 2 schools, email is the best way to get ahold of me: hroberti@westwarwickpublicschools.com

I would also like to leave you with Four things to do NOW to get ready for BACK TO SCHOOL time:

     1. Plan Out and Reset Your Daily Schedule — Slowly move bedtimes and
wakeup times back to what they should be during the school year. You can do
this gradually over one or two weeks. If meal times or other regular routines
have changed over the summer vacation, reset those as well. Block out the
school schedule (holidays, test days, etc.) on a calendar. A family calendar in a
prominent place helps everyone see what’s going on at a glance, including after
school activities and childcare.

     2. Organize Your Workspace and Supplies— If you (or your child) don’t
have an organized area to work in yet, now’s the time to get it set up. Declutter
and streamline the workspace that will be used for homework. Make sure it’s a
quiet, distraction-free place. Stock up on the supplies you need, including any
organization accessories like file folders or desk trays.

     3. Get in the Back to School Mindset— Review your previous academic
achievements. The summer might have made you forget about that awesome
project you made last fall. A quick review can not only energize you for the new school year, it can help you identify areas you might want to work on more this year.

    4. Set goals for yourself for this upcoming school year— Start the year the
way you want it to continue. Doing the above should help you get a good start
on the school year. You can make the first week even easier by setting up the
daily routines that make school life easier. Each night before school, prep lunch
and snacks, your outfit, PE clothes, and your backpack.

(The end of each blog entry will be a would you rather type of question.
Think about it and ask your child what they would want to do.
You might be surprised by their answer!)

Would you rather jump into a pool of chocolate pudding or jump into a pool of chocolate ice cream????

Take care,

Mrs. Roberti
