| Isn't this great for the first week of school?! |
Hi Everyone,
Week #1
Our first week of school is upon us! I am so excited to be working at Greenbush and Wakefield Hills Elementary Schools!
This week I will have the pleasure of introducing myself to the classes and explain what my role is as a School Guidance Counselor. I plan on first explaining how to log into our Google Classroom pages for Guidance so be on the look-out for those when the students are able to take home their chromebooks.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In first grade we will be talking about my role as a guidance counselor and relating it to the parts of Mrs. Potato Head! It is a fun way for the students to understand how I can help them this year.
One of the most important things we will discuss about is that I am always happy to talk to them!
We also read the book The Big Orange Splot,
which is wonderful! It talks about the fact that everyone is unique and has different dreams and we should celebrate that! The students will have the chance to make their own "Dream House" that looks like all of their dreams. Ask to see your child's creation and talk about their dreams with them :-)
The last activity of our class will be a great video called Belly Breathe (feel free to click here and watch it again with your child). This video features Elmo and helps boys and girls when they feel stressed. Belly breathing is when you take deep breaths, and you breath so deeply that you feel it in your belly. This can help you feel relaxed and less tense!
At the end of each lesson, we will do a great summary activity to help make sure the kids know how I can help them! It is in their Google Classroom page if you want to take a closer look at their answers.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In second grade we will talk about my role as a guidance counselor and relate it to the items in a first aid kit! It will be a fun way for the students to understand how I can help them this year.
One of the most important things we will talk about is that I am always happy to talk to them!
We also will read the book the I Like Myself,
Also we will talk about how we should all be "glad we're me and there's no one else we would rather be!"
To continue the conversation of appreciating individuality, we will make "All about me" t-shirts. Ask your child to explain what they chose to put on their shirts. I'm sure they would love to tell you!
At the end of each lesson, we will do a great summary activity to help make sure the kids knew how I can help them! It is in their Google Classroom page if you want to take a closer look at their answers.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In third grade we will talk about my role as a guidance counselor and will relate it to the items in a backpack with school supplies! It will be a fun way for the students to understand how I can help them this year. We also will work on a matching game to drive home how I can help them.
One of the most important things we will discuss is that I am always happy to talk to them!
Next we will talk about what makes them special and we will make circle maps together. Here is the circle map that I made.
| Mrs. Roberti's Circle Map |
Can you guess what makes me special? Ask your child because I am sure you will want to see what they thought was special about themselves! The students have the choice to either make their circle maps digitally (you can see them on our Google Classroom page) or as a hard copy (they should have this with them.)
At the end of each lesson, we will do a great summary activity to help make sure the kids know how I can help them! It is in their Google Classroom page if you want to take a closer look at their answers.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In fourth grade we will talk about my role as a guidance counselor and get to play a fun “How much do you know about a school counselor! A few groups will even get to play Kahoot which is always a big hit! We will also play two truths and a fib, which is one of my favorite get-to-know-you games. My three statements were : 1.) I am a twin, 2.) I once drove an elevator for a job, 3.) I went to Rhode Island College. Can you guess my fib?
Then we will talk about how unique they all are and we will work on an “Expressions all about me” activity.
Ask your child because I am sure you will want to see what they answered about themselves! The students will have the choice to either make them digitally (you can see them on our Google Classroom page) or as a hard copy (they should have this with them.)
At the end of each lesson, we will do a great summary activity to help make sure the kids knew how I can help them! It is in their Google Classroom page if you want to take a closer look at their answers.
Would you rather have bright blue hair or bright blue feet?????
Take care and see you next week!
Mrs. Roberti
